President's Message

 Since our founding in 1966, we have been providing packaged music and video media to the world for 50 years as they evolved into different platforms such as analog records, music tapes, CDs, video cassettes, DVDs, and Blu-ray discs.

Today, due to the worldwide spread of an infectious disease, a new lifestyle has been forced upon us, and it has also significantly changed the surrounding environment of the entertainment industry. As the system of delivering content to users directly becomes the norm, we have adapted to the market's changes and strengthened our digital marketing sector to push for digital strategies that appeal to users.

Currently, holding live shows and events are becoming difficult. However, our live performance theater which opened last year in the center of the redevelopment area in Ikebukuro, "harevutai", is specially designed for online streaming, enabling it to be widely used regardless of the challenges faced with social distancing.

And apart from music and video, our regional revitalization business that incorporates our strengths handles projects from a city and prefectural level to government projects, as we steadily expand our business scale.

Needless to say, we direct our full energy into creating new, hit content without making compromises to our core business. However, these content are created by people. By perceiving our people as a company asset, we value the creativity of each individual employee and put effort into sculpting them.

We have been working on the digital transformation of our company infrastructure for several years. With our society as a whole transforming digitally, we will further invest in infrastructure and prepare the best business environment that adheres to the times.

We will continue to keep pushing forward as a company that always provides surprise and excitement by blending modern taste with the expertise that we have cultivated up until now.

Our Activities and Characteristics

PONY CANYON, a pioneer in the production and sales of car stereo music tapes, was established in October 1966 under the group company of Nippon Broadcasting System, Inc. We built a revolutionary distributing system of selling music not only at record stores, but at gas stations as well. In 1970, CANYON RECORDS INC. was established. In an age where most record companies came from electronics manufacturers, we were a unique record company with a background in mass media, belonging to the Fujisankei Communications Group.

Around the same time, we put our focus onto video software as the new technology of the information age, and we began its sales ahead of our rivals. In the 1980s, packaged music shifted from records to CDs, resulting in exponential growth in both music and video package sales.

In 1994, there was an absorption-type merger of our direct affiliate, PONY CANYON SALES INC. By grouping production, advertising, and marketing all into one, our sales ability became widely recognized, and we now handle many products of other content production companies, in addition to our own.

During the late ’90s when films started becoming digital, we sold the world’s first DVD software, and later, Japan’s first Blu-ray title in 2006. In the early 2000s, we also launched our video and music streaming business.

In addition, we also began branching into the regional revitalization business and in 2019, we launched "harevutai," a live performance theater in Ikebukuro.

We are a universal entertainment company, continually challenging ourselves to expand beyond the sphere of music and video to provide a wide variety of content.
